Imagine you are the head of the department in your area of healthcare delivery.

Ethics in Healthcare Delivery

About this Assignment

In this course, we have learned about issues that impact all areas of healthcare delivery. Ethics and practice; healthcare policy, financing, and cost; access to quality care; and advancing/changing approaches in healthcare system delivery all impact every professional working in the healthcare field. Current and future healthcare delivery professionals will need to be aware of each of these issues and be ready to teach, train, and lead new professionals in their organization.

Imagine you are the head of the department in your area of healthcare delivery. Perhaps you are a lead or charge person such as a physician, nurse or other allied health provider. Maybe you are the manager or administrator for a clinic, hospital, or other healthcare organization. Or it could be that you are a lead researcher or program director in some sector of public health. What issue would you most want new employees to be aware of? Why is this issue the most important? How would you focus your training time to cover this area?

For this assignment you have been tasked with putting yourself in the role of a healthcare leader. You select the position–pick one that aligns with your current or future goals! In your role as a leader you will prepare to educate new professionals who are beginning their career with your department or organization. You will choose one of the areas we have covered in the final five chapters of this course as the focus for your assignment.

  • A 800-1000 word. report that discusses the area of focus, why you selected it, what you learned and what new employees must learn about this area.

Choose your imaginary position of leadership in your organization. Are you a provider, a manager, a researcher? You decide, and then plan, according to your role, which area you feel new employees who work for you should be educated about.

You covered a lot of information in the last five chapters! There is no way you can cover everything you learned in a 15 slide PowerPoint. You will need to pick a topic that you feel is most important, then analyze the information and distill it down to core concepts that you feel need to be shared with new employees. The focus of your topic should come from one of the following areas:

  • Access to Healthcare
  • Ethics in Healthcare Delivery
  • Healthcare Practice and Policy
  • Understanding Healthcare Costs and Financing
  • Providing Quality Healthcare
  • Future Considerations for Our Health Care Organization

Step 2: Do your research and write your paper

Once you have selected your topic you must use Study.com lessons and at least two external, scholarly sources to adequately research your topic. Your paper should provide the following core components:

  • Your imaginary healthcare leader role and the organization you serve in. Include why you selected that role and organization. If you are already in a leadership role and wish to write from this perspective, that is fine. Just make sure you specify that information in your paper.
  • The specific topic you selected, and why you selected it. Justify your response. Why do new employees in your organization need to know about this topic? What makes it the most important of all the topics covered in class? How does this topic impact your role, and those who you are training, in the healthcare delivery system? How does it impact other professionals\’ roles? How does it affect consumers, clients, and patients?
  • A review that shares what you have learned about the topic. You will have to analyze all of the information, and then synthesize the information to present an overview of the topic, with the most important issues highlighted. Use your course lessons and external research to build your informational section regarding this area.
  • What new or applicable information did you learn from reviewing this material, and how will you apply it in your role in the healthcare delivery system? How will this information help you better serve your customers, patients, or clients?
  • Your paper should include a coversheet that contains your name; the date submitted; the title of the paper and the class name. It should follow APA format, and include a reference page.

Using Sources

You should refer to the course material for supporting evidence, but you must also useat least two credible, scholarly resources from outside of the course. This information should be in support of your topic, directly link to your chosen area of advancement, and be cited in your reference page using APA format.

Please include a mix of both primary and secondary sources. If you use any Study.com lessons as sources, please also cite them in APA format (including the lesson title and the instructor\’s name).

  • Primary sources are documents or records that report on a study, experiment, trial or research project; and are usually written by the person(s) who did the research, conducted the study, or ran the experiment. You may use resources like CIHNAL, Google Scholar, and/or Science/Direct to find articles that are considered primary sources.
  • Secondary sources list, summarize, compare and evaluate primary information. Secondary sources include reviews, meta-analysis, newsletters and professional news sources, practice guidelines & standards, clinical care notes, or patient education information. Secondary sources may also come from reputable websites with .gov, .edu, or .org in the domain. (Wikipedia is not a reputable source, though the sources listed in Wikipedia articles may be acceptable.)

Expert Answer and Explanation

Ethics in Healthcare Delivery

The healthcare setting provides services to a wide range of clients each with different needs and demands. It is the role of healthcare providers to ensure that the needs of the patients are met in an effective manner (Foronda, 2021). In this regard, there is a need for nurses to be taught the importance of applying ethics in the delivery of healthcare services. The ability to determine between the good and the bad is important in ensuring all the key players in healthcare meet their desired outcomes. This paper will focus on ethics in healthcare delivery from the standpoint of a provider.

Imaginary Healthcare Leader Role

The selected imaginary healthcare leader role is a healthcare provider that directly deals with nurses and patients in providing quality and efficient medical care. The role of healthcare provider lead is an effective position and it enables me to interact with patients on a direct basis and get to understand their primary needs (Leach et al., 2018). As a provider, it is important to understand the different healthcare needs and determine the ways to mitigate bias.

The role is in a leading hospital that deals with a high flow of patients in need of different care services. as a leader within the provider unit, it is important to ensure that the nurses are aware of the expectations required of them at all times (Deweese et al., 2022). Nurse providers form the vast majority of the healthcare professional and it is important that they become aware of the different issues affecting patients and how to best resolve any eventuality (Leach et al., 2018). It is important that healthcare professionals understand the importance of ethics and how to implement its operations in the delivery of quality patient outcomes.

Ethics in Healthcare Delivery

The concept of ethics is a key topic within the healthcare setting and can be used to help provide efficient patient-centered care. Ethics can be said as the ability to determine what is right from that which is wrong (Foronda, 2021). Implementing ethics in healthcare can help the facility meet its mission. Ethics within the nursing unit is critical since it can increase the effectiveness of the unit by ensuring the nurses interact with patients in ensuring an effective patient outcome. In healthcare, ethics can be categorized into different categories depending on the affected stakeholders (Jill Day et al., 2018).

For instance, the principle of autonomy is associated with ethical requirements when dealing with patient needs and requirements. The principles of beneficence and nonmaleficence are associated with the ethical requirements of a care provider in terms of ensuring the safety of the patients and avoidance of harm respectively (Jill Day et al., 2018). The other principle of ethics as used in healthcare delivery is justice and fairness which requires that all healthcare providers demonstrate a just and fair model of care regardless of age, religion, race, or medical conditions.

Employees in the organization need to know about ethics in healthcare delivery since ethical practice is the basis of an effective healthcare setting and can be used by nurses to interact with patients. The topic is the most important of all the topics in class since it has to be applied all the time and used to determine the direction of care. The topic has a direct impact on my role as a provider as it affects my every decision for training the nurses on what is expected. The nurses have to be informed that every decision they make has to satisfy the principles of ethics (autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice).

Overview of the Topic

The principle of autonomy can be applied in the delivery of ethical care since it focuses on the patient needs and requirements. As a nurse, one needs to be in a position to understand what the patient needs and offer medical care that is in line with the needs of the patient (Jill Day et al., 2018). Beneficence addressed the ability of the provider to offer services that are in the best interest of the patient. Beneficence is an ethical requirement that ensures that healthcare providers offer quality and efficient care at all times (Jill Day et al., 2018).

Nonmaleficence on the other hand requires the healthcare provider to mitigate any form of harm that might affect the patient. Mitigating harm can include creating evidence-based interventions to help resolve the issues affecting the patient.

Applicable Information

After reviewing the materials, the main applicable information learned is that the use of ethical principles in healthcare is critical in the care delivery process. Healthcare providers can make use of ethics to determine effective care delivery models ad inform their decisions (Frith, 2018). Understanding the different principles can help ensure proper integration of quality and effective patient outcomes. The use of ethics can help improve customer experience and attainment of company goals

Conclusion

This paper focused on the ethics in healthcare delivery from the standpoint of a provider. The concept of ethics is a key factor in healthcare as it helps determine the good from the wrong and how they can impact the overall quality of care. Understanding how ethics can affect the delivery of care and improve the overall patient outcome is key to ensuring better patient outcomes.

Health care delivery systems are complex structures that consist of multiple components that work together to provide quality health care services to individuals and communities. These components are interdependent and require cooperation and collaboration to achieve the desired outcomes. In this article, we will discuss the four key components of the health care delivery system and their roles in ensuring that patients receive appropriate care.

Introduction

The health care delivery system is an essential aspect of modern society, and it encompasses a range of services, including prevention, treatment, and management of diseases. A well-functioning health care delivery system is vital in promoting the health and well-being of individuals and communities. It requires various components that must work together to ensure that patients receive timely, high-quality, and affordable care. The four key components of the health care delivery system are health care providers, health care facilities, health insurance, and health care regulations.

Health Care Providers

Health care providers are individuals or organizations that provide health care services, such as doctors, nurses, hospitals, and clinics. These providers play a crucial role in the health care delivery system as they are responsible for providing medical care to patients. They are trained professionals who diagnose and treat illnesses, injuries, and diseases. The quality of care provided by health care providers is critical in ensuring that patients receive the best possible treatment.

Health Care Facilities

Health care facilities are physical locations where health care services are provided. They include hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other health care institutions. These facilities are critical components of the health care delivery system, as they provide a setting for health care providers to deliver medical services to patients. The quality of care provided by health care facilities is vital in ensuring that patients receive appropriate care in a safe and comfortable environment.

Health Insurance

Health insurance is a critical component of the health care delivery system. It is a type of insurance that provides coverage for medical expenses incurred by individuals or families. Health insurance helps to reduce the financial burden associated with medical care and enables individuals to access health care services that they may not otherwise be able to afford. The availability of health insurance is vital in ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate medical care.

Health Care Regulations

Health care regulations are laws, rules, and policies that govern the provision of health care services. They are critical components of the health care delivery system, as they help to ensure that health care services are provided safely, efficiently, and effectively. Health care regulations cover a wide range of areas, including patient safety, privacy, and quality of care. Compliance with health care regulations is vital in ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.

What are the main objectives of a health care delivery system

In a world where healthcare is becoming increasingly important, it is essential to understand the objectives of a healthcare delivery system. A healthcare delivery system can be defined as the collection of institutions, resources, and people that deliver healthcare services to meet the health needs of a specific population. The primary objective of a healthcare delivery system is to improve the health of individuals and communities. In this article, we will discuss the four main objectives of a healthcare delivery system.

Access to Healthcare

The first objective of a healthcare delivery system is to ensure access to healthcare. Access to healthcare refers to the ability of individuals to obtain healthcare services when needed. It is an essential component of a healthcare delivery system as it ensures that everyone has the opportunity to receive timely and appropriate healthcare services. Unfortunately, there are many barriers to access, such as lack of transportation, financial constraints, and insufficient healthcare providers. To overcome these barriers, healthcare delivery systems need to implement strategies such as providing transportation services, increasing the number of healthcare providers, and offering financial assistance to those who cannot afford healthcare services.

Quality of Healthcare

The second objective of a healthcare delivery system is to provide high-quality healthcare. Quality of healthcare refers to the degree to which healthcare services meet the needs and expectations of patients. High-quality healthcare ensures that patients receive the most effective and efficient healthcare services possible. Factors that influence the quality of healthcare include the competency of healthcare providers, the use of evidence-based practices, and the availability of necessary resources. Healthcare delivery systems need to ensure that they provide high-quality healthcare services to promote positive health outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Cost of Healthcare

The third objective of a healthcare delivery system is to control the cost of healthcare. The cost of healthcare refers to the financial burden of healthcare services on patients, healthcare providers, and healthcare delivery systems. Controlling the cost of healthcare is essential as it ensures that healthcare services remain affordable and accessible to everyone. Healthcare delivery systems need to implement strategies such as increasing efficiency, reducing waste, and promoting prevention to control the cost of healthcare.

Patient Satisfaction

The fourth objective of a healthcare delivery system is to promote patient satisfaction. Patient satisfaction refers to the degree to which patients are satisfied with their healthcare services. It is essential to promote patient satisfaction as it ensures that patients are more likely to seek healthcare services in the future and adhere to treatment plans. Factors that influence patient satisfaction include the quality of healthcare, the attitude of healthcare providers, and the accessibility of healthcare services. Healthcare delivery systems need to implement strategies such as improving communication between patients and healthcare providers, reducing wait times, and providing a comfortable and welcoming environment to promote patient satisfaction.

Conclusion

In conclusion, a healthcare delivery system is a collection of institutions, resources, and people that deliver healthcare services to meet the health needs of a specific population. The main objectives of a healthcare delivery system are to ensure access to healthcare, provide high-quality healthcare, control the cost of healthcare, and promote patient satisfaction.

Importance of Healthcare Delivery System

In today’s world, healthcare is an essential aspect of human life. Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right that every individual deserves. However, it is not just about having a healthcare system, but also having an efficient and effective healthcare delivery system. In this article, we will explore the importance of a healthcare delivery system, its benefits, and how it impacts society as a whole.

Introduction to Healthcare Delivery System

A healthcare delivery system is the network of individuals, resources, and organizations that provide healthcare services to individuals and populations. The healthcare delivery system includes healthcare providers such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and hospitals. It also includes healthcare payers such as insurance companies and government-funded programs. The healthcare delivery system is responsible for ensuring that individuals receive quality healthcare services and that the healthcare system operates efficiently.

Access to Healthcare

One of the primary benefits of a healthcare delivery system is that it provides individuals with access to healthcare. Access to healthcare is critical for maintaining good health and preventing disease. A healthcare delivery system ensures that individuals have access to healthcare services regardless of their socioeconomic status. This is achieved through the provision of health insurance programs and government-funded healthcare programs.

Quality Healthcare Services

The healthcare delivery system also ensures that individuals receive quality healthcare services. Quality healthcare services are essential for maintaining good health and preventing disease. The healthcare delivery system achieves this by ensuring that healthcare providers are trained and certified to provide quality healthcare services. It also ensures that healthcare facilities are equipped with the necessary resources to provide quality healthcare services.

Improved Public Health

The healthcare delivery system plays a crucial role in improving public health. Public health refers to the health of the population as a whole. A healthcare delivery system achieves this by promoting healthy behaviors and preventing disease. It also provides individuals with access to vaccinations and other preventive measures. The healthcare delivery system is also responsible for controlling the spread of infectious diseases and responding to public health emergencies.

Economic Benefits

A healthcare delivery system provides significant economic benefits. It contributes to the growth of the economy by creating job opportunities and supporting industries such as pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and insurance. A healthy workforce also increases productivity, which results in economic growth. The healthcare delivery system also reduces healthcare costs by preventing disease and providing early intervention.

Healthcare Disparities

Despite the benefits of a healthcare delivery system, healthcare disparities exist. Healthcare disparities refer to differences in healthcare access and outcomes based on race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and geographic location. These disparities can lead to poorer health outcomes for individuals who belong to marginalized communities. The healthcare delivery system can address healthcare disparities by promoting health equity and ensuring that healthcare services are accessible to everyone.

Role of Technology

Technology has played a significant role in the healthcare delivery system. It has improved access to healthcare services through telemedicine and other digital health solutions. It has also improved the quality of healthcare services through electronic health records and other healthcare technologies. Technology has also played a crucial role in research and development, leading to the discovery of new treatments and therapies.

Healthcare Delivery System Challenges

The healthcare delivery system faces several challenges. One of the biggest challenges is the rising cost of healthcare. The cost of healthcare is rising at an unsustainable rate, making it difficult for individuals to afford healthcare services. Another challenge is the shortage of healthcare professionals, which can lead to a decrease in the quality of healthcare services. Finally, healthcare delivery systems must adapt to the changing needs of the population, including an aging population and an increase in chronic diseases.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the healthcare delivery system is a critical aspect of modern society. It provides individuals with access to quality healthcare services, improves public health, and contributes to the growth of the economy. While challenges exist, the healthcare delivery system must continue to adapt and evolve to meet the changing needs
