System development and implementation have various steps that need to involve different stakeholders for successful completion. This paper addresses the role that a nurse informaticist has in relation to the different stages of system development and implementation.
Planning and Requirements Definition
Nurses, the majority of healthcare professionals, spend the most time with the patients. In this regard, they have the local level knowledge in relation to the internal processes, policies and how the current system is affecting the patients (Sipes, 2019). Their involvement during the planning stage and definitions of requirements can lead to a better understanding of what is required.
